The 26-year-old posted the fastest times on both runs to finish with a combined total of 1:38.818 for his first ever World Cup victory on the 1994 Olympic track.
The achievement was his country's first since 15 December 2002 when Markus Kleinheinz won in Altenberg.
"It's unbelievable, I just can't take it in," said Kindl. "It's a long time since an Austrian was right at the top in a men's World Cup. I think it was Markus Kleinheinz.
"This was my day, everything went right. And I was sitting on a fantastic sled. Thanks so much to the technicians and everyone who made this victory possible."
Kindl took victory by 0.054 seconds with Semen Pavlichenko of Russia second on 1:38.872 and Italy's Dominik Fischnaller third.
Two-time Olympic champion Felix Loch placed eighth after a day in which he complained of dizziness in the course and considered retiring from the race after a sixth-place finish in the first run.
He continues to head the overall standings with 705 points heading into the final two World Cup races in Altenberg and Sochi.
The German completed his team duties later in the day too, helping his country take victory in the team relay alongside Dajana Eitberger and Wendl and Tobias Arlt in 2:37.349 to maintain their unbeaten run this season.
Second went to Russia in 2:37.356 while Kindl completed a successful day as part of Austria's bronze medal winning team.
