The 22-year-old Briton is expected to replace Yonny Hernandez alongside Danilo Petrucci at Ducati's satellite team.
Redding has struggled to adapt his riding style to the factory-spec Honda used by MotoGP newcomer Marc VDS this year, only twice finishing in the top 10 so far in 2015.
He had previously clome close to the Moto2 title with Marc VDS in 2013, before stepping up to MotoGP with a Gresini-run production-spec Honda last year.
His links with Ducati date back to 2012, when he tested for the factory team at Mugello.
Reigning Moto2 champion Tito Rabat is tipped to move up from Marc VDS' team in the intermediate class to take Redding's place on the MotoGP bike.
