The former Hull KR back rower was put on report after his shoulder charge on Leigh full-back Gregg McNally in the opening minute of Saturday's fifth-round tie at Leigh Sports Village.
Paterson will face a grade D offence, which carries a ban of three to five matches, when he appears in front of a Rugby Football disciplinary panel on Tuesday.
Already without stand-off Rangi Chase and second rower Weller Hauraki because of suspension, the Red Devils are facing yet more disciplinary worries, with prop Darrell Griffin charged with a grade B reckless high tackle on Leigh front rower Sam Barlow in the same match.
Leigh centre Tom Armstrong has been charged with a grade B dangerous throw on Salford prop Carl Forster in the cup tie.
Meanwhile, Hull KR second rower James Donaldson is accused of a grade B offence of kicking Bradford hooker Adam O'Brien while team-mate Adam Walker is facing a grade A charge of striking the same player during their 50-30 fifth-round win at the Provident Stadium on Sunday.
Catalans Dragons prop forward Jeff Lima has been charged with a grade B offence of making dangerous contact on Huddersfield back rower Ukuma Ta'ai during French club's 38-14 Super League defeat at the John Smith's Stadium and Giants second rower Jack Hughes is facing a grade A charge of dangerous contact on Catalans prop Remi Casty.
Griffin, Donaldson, Lima and Hughes have until 11am on Tuesday to submit early-guilty pleas and avoid a hearing.
The players were charged after the incidents were viewed by the RFL's match review panel, which also issued formal cautions to Castleford centre Ashley Gibson, Huddersfield prop Eorl Crabtree and Bradford centre Jean Philippe-Baile.
