Flood, who was only playing as a result of an injury to Wilkinson, scored a try and amassed 16 points in the 26-18 victory at Twickenham in what was his first international start.
The 21-year-old Newcastle Falcon keeps his place against Wales on Saturday and has been quick to praise Wilkinson for the advice given prior to the France game.
"Jonny talked me through a few things just telling me what I could expect from international rugby," Flood told the Daily Star newspaper.
"He told me I needed to get the ball through my hands quickly because the French line speed was really fast.
"It allowed me to think clearly and gave me some real confidence having advice from someone who I respect so much."
Flood faces another highly-rated young player at the Millennium Stadium tomorrow in James Hook, who has been moved to number 10 following an injury to Wales skipper Stephen Jones.
"I've seen James Hook play a few times. I saw him for Wales U/21s against England U/21s," added Flood.
"I've seen him on video a few times and he's a fantastic player and a great talent."
