Montpellier capitalised on Clermont’s shock loss on Friday to move within two points of the Top 14 leaders after defeating Perpignan 50-19.

The hosts ran in five tries as Rene Ranger and Alex Tulou notched two tries apiece with Eric Escande adding a further score late on.

Scrum-half Benoit Paillaugue kicked 20 points and Francois Trinh-Duc landed a drop-goal in a one-sided contest as Perpignan twice lost a man to the sin bin.

Elsewhere, Gael Fickou scored the only try as play-off hopefuls Toulouse conquered basement club Biarritz 16-6 while Toulon drew level on points with fourth-placed Castres after edging their contest 19-13.
