'Ice queen' McIntosh feels the emotion after European rifle gold in Baku

The Scottish shooter accumulated a final score of 619.1 to win her first European medal, having narrowly missed out when she finished fourth in the 50m rifle three positions event, two years ago.

Ukraine's Dariya Sharipova took silver and Sweden's Marie Enqvist claimed the bronze in Azerbaijan.

The victory prompted an emotional reaction from the Rio 2016 Olympian, with the five-time Commonwealth Games medallist revelling in a landmark moment in her career. "It's incredible to be European Champion, it's not really sunk in yet - this is huge," said McIntosh. "The weather conditions were really, really hard so you don't know what's going on in terms of how your opponents are handling it. "I had a wobble halfway through and took a break, but it was then that I saw everyone was shooting worse than me so it made me more determined. "When I was on the podium with a gold medal around my neck, I was overwhelmed by the whole thing, I even started crying which is unlike me because I'm renowned for being the ice queen!" McIntosh's sister, Seonaid, was also competing in the event and finished 22nd overall, while Katie Gleeson's final ranking position was 59th. Their combined scores meant the Britain's women's prone team were ranked ninth overall.
