Kranjec was second after the first round following a jump of 236m but upped that on the second to 239.5m to finish with a combined points total of 432.8.
That was enough for him to edge out local hero Kenneth Gangnes who finished second with 428.4 points and Japan's Noriaki Kasai who was third with 418.5.
"I didn't really expect that," Kranjec admitted afterwards.
"One week it's going really well and then really bad again. I don't know why it is like that.
"At the beginning of the season I felt strong pain due to my injury. I wasn't able to find the fight feeling in the air, it was only training.
"Sometimes I have this feeling again, like today. I still have constant pain in my elbow and I can't completely straighten my arm. In April I will undergo surgery again and then it should be okay."

Kranjec's victory did not trouble the top of the overall World Cup standings as he is lying down in 20th place although third-placed Gangnes was able to chip away slightly at World Cup leader Peter Prevc who could only finish fourth with the latter moving onto 1374 points and Gangnes to 850.
