The 27-year-old freestyler, famed for his handlebar moustache, was named the world ski cross champion after defeating Olympic Champion Jean-Frederic Chapuis of France in the final, while Sweden's Victor Oehling Norberg claimed the bronze.
There was drama earlier in the day when the semi-finals were interrupted for 15 minutes after a huge crash that saw home favourite, Austrian Thomas Zangerl, and Armin Niederer of Switzerland hospitalised with unknown injuries.
Meanwhile there was more joy for the home fans in the ladies competition, where Austrian Andrea Limbacher pipped 2007 champion Ophelie David of France to the gold medal.
The final was decided by a photo finish, while Fanny Smith of Switzerland took bronze and Marielle Thompson of Canada, Olympic Champion and 2013 silver medallist, crashed out at the semi-final stage.
