China Open: Trump, Selby, Ding and Higgins book spots in last 16

The China Open is heading for a tasty finale with Judd Trump, Mark Selby, Ding Junhui and John Higgins all booking their places in the last 16 in Beijing.

Tournament favourite Trump was a 5-1 winner over 2002 world champion Peter Ebdon in the last 32. His reward is a meeting John Higgins in the last 16 after the four-times world champion completed a 5-2 victory over fellow Scotsman Graeme Dott.

Trump refused to get bogged down in a tactical battle with Ebdon as runs of 52, 66, 43 and a lovely 127 helped the recent World Grand Prix winner to progress.

"I felt that if I played how I have been recently, I would be tough to beat, and that's how it proved," said Trump.

"I just concentrate on my own game and don't worry about how other people play. I have played well all season and hope to keep that going."

Ebdon's knock of 49 in frame four only staved off the whitewash as Trump continues to look menacing as he prepares to bid for a first world title in Sheffield.

World champion Mark Selby appeared to put his latest bout of neck pain behind him with a 5-0 win over Elliot Slessor.

In the final ranking event before he defends his Crucible title later this month, Selby will meet David Gilbert for a spot in the quarter-finals.

In what was a fruitful day for some of snooker's bigger names, there were also wins for home favourite Ding Junhui, who ran out a 5-1 victor against Mark Davis.

Ding will meet a rejuvenated Mark Williams, who continues to enjoy some fine form. The two-time world champion who was recently crowned world senior champion was a convincing 5-0 winner over Michael Leslie.
