Stephen Hendry booked a place in Sunday's Maplin UK Championship with a 9-7 semi-final win over World Champion Graeme Dott on Saturday evening. Dott fought back strongly after ending the first session 5-3 down, winning the first four frames of the evening
But world number one Hendry, who last contested a final at the China Open in April last year, finished strongly.
The veteran Scot took a crucial 16th frame 61-25 to move to within a frame of the final, before closing with a break of 93 to secure the win.
It is 10 years since he won his fifth UK title, and he would equal Steve Davis' record of six titles if he beats Ebdon on Sunday.
The defeat meant Dott missed out on the chance to become only the sixth player to win the World and UK titles in the same year, but the Larkhall potter will still be pleased to finally regain some form after a patchy start to the season.
