Bingham led 5-3 going in to the afternoon session after a sparkling display on Thursday night, and once again held his own against the man who is the hot favourite to take the title.
The high quality snooker continued as the match resumed, with all but one of the eight frames witnessing a half century.
Bingham stole the opener with a 52 after Trump had run out of position after a promising start, but the Bristolian hit straight back with breaks if 113 and 63 to get the scores to 6-5.
Bingham responded with a 67 in the next, then stretched his lead to 8-5 as he won the first frame back after the mid-session interval with a ruthless 54 that, once again, saw him steal a frame that Trump had seemed in control of.
Trump won two of the last three frames of the session, however, though Bingham showed that his eye was still in with a superb 85.
The match resumes on Saturday, and with the players seemingly incredibly well-matched on current form it seems likely to go the distance - unlike the other semi-final, in which Shaun Murphy has pulled out a staggering 12-3 lead thanks to an incredible run of break building on Friday morning.
