Trump beats O'Sullivan

Two of the most talented players in the game put on a memorable display in the showdown in front of an enthusiastic crowd, with only the final frame not seeing a break in excess of 50.

O'Sullivan, who had dispatched Stephen Lee, Neil Robertson and Graeme Dott en route to the final on Sunday, claimed the first frame with a well-compiled break of 67 with the balls in awkward positions.

But Trump, who had come from 3-1 down against Jimmy White in his round three match just to make it into the final day, hit back with explosive breaks of 68, 69 and 69 to restore his advantage.

Just a frame away from defeat, O'Sullivan played his very best snooker, knocking in 118 in the fifth frame and 132 in the sixth to set up a decider.

After a brief safety exchange it was Trump, who had beaten Tom Ford, John Higgins and Martin Gould earlier in the day, that moved ahead.

On frame ball he had his moment of fortune, seeing the red down the cushion rattle in the jaws before jumping out and going straight into the middle pocket.

"When Ronnie got in he made it look so easy," Trump said afterwards, "but you need a little bit of luck and I got it."

Trump picks up a cheque for 10,000 euros following the victory.
