Wattana sets up Hicks game

Former world number three James Wattana began his bid to return to the Crucible with a 10-3 victory over Justin Ashley in round one of qualifying for the World Championship.

The 41-year-old Thai who reached the semi-finals of the World Championship in 1993 and 1997 rattled in a 141 break in the second frame but was pegged back to 3-3 before winning seven consecutive frames.

He now faces Andy Hicks and needs three more wins to qualify for the televised stages.
