The 42-year-old Thai, who reached the semi-finals of the World Snooker Championship in 1993 and 1997, defeated Li Yan 5-2 and will now face world number one Judd Trump at the Tempodrom in Berlin on January 30.
That is one of 10 second round matches - featuring the world's top 10, minus the suspended Stephen Lee - that will be held back for next year's main event in Germany.
The rest of the second round will be completed in Yorkshire on Thursday and Friday, with the winners going through to join the world's best potters in the final stages of the sixth ranking event of the year.
The current top 10 features Trump, Mark Williams, Neil Robertson, Shaun Murphy, John Higgins, Stephen Maguire, Mark Allen, Ding Junhui and Mark Selby. The match between Dominic Dale and Jimmy White replaces that which would have been played by Lee, who continues his absence from competition.
World number 40 Michael White was stunned by amateur Fraser Patrick 5-2 and he will play Pinner potter Martin Gould for a last 32 berth on Thursday evening.
