Stuart Bingham fends off Robbie Williams to reach last 16

2010 World Championship winner Neil Robertson made light work of Welshman Jamie Jones to set up a second round clash with either Ali Carter or Alan McManus.

World number 10 Bingham was trailing 5-4 overnight, but picked up three of the first four frames of Monday's second session on his way to securing the win.

Bingham will face 2006 world champion Graeme Dott for a spot in the quarter-finals after overcoming the effects of a cold.

"Last Tuesday I went to the tournament’s media launch in London and Mark Selby had a cold so I think I got it from him," said the Essex potter nicknamed 'Ballrun'.

"I feel ok today but it did affect my concentration and I think that’s why I was playing one good frame then one bad one. I never considered pulling out though, I’d have to be on my death bed for that to happen.”

Two-time Crucible finalist Carter is on top against McManus after erecting a 6-3 lead over the 1994 Masters champion in a match in which neither man played at their peak.

Robertson, who is fifth on the money list so far this season, raced into a 6-0 lead in the first session before Jones finally made an impact by winning the next two.

Leading 7-2 when the players returned for the second session on Monday afternoon, Robertson was in no mood to wait around.

The Australian began with a break of 133 before grinding out the next two frames to seal his place in the second round with a 10-2 success.

Earlier on Monday Barry Hawkins completed a 10-9 win over Matthew Selt, but only after the 2013 finalist watched his opponent recover from 9-4 to 9-9.

"Matt played some great stuff and put me under pressure, but I don't feel like I was squandering chances," Hawkins, 35, told BBC Sport.

"To come through like that is a great feeling and I am delighted. There is nothing worse than when someone is coming back at you like that and they are growing in confidence.

"I was pushed all the way but played some good stuff."

Hawkins will face the winner of the match between Mark Allen and Ryan Day.

In another first round encounter, Chinese star Ding Junhui fought back from 3-0 down to trail England's Mark Davis 4-3 at the end of their first session. The match will resume on Tuesday morning.

Tournament favourite Ronnie O'Sullivan begins his latest bid for a sixth world title against Craig Steadman on Tuesday afternoon.
