Chaz Davies will start on pole for Race One of the Pirelli German Round on Saturday.
The Ducati rider secured his third career pole ahead of Kawasaki Racing Team's Tom Sykes and Nicky Hayden, who sneaked his Honda World Superbike Team machine on to the front row in the final seconds of the session.
Davies did not have it all his own way in qualifying, straying off track midway through the session, but as the track dried following a damp final practice he found his way to the top of the timesheets.
Hayden's late move pushed IodaRacing Team's Lorenzo Savadori off the front row and down to fourth, alongside Althea BMW Racing Team's Jordi Torres.
Reigning champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki) had to come through Superpole 1 after struggling on Friday, but once he had accomplished that he steered his way to sixth place.
Having crashed in free practice, Alex Lowes was not allowed to take part in Superpole 2 and will start from 12th for the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team.
