The Northern Irishman looked strikingly dominant in the Netherlands as he moved 50 points clear of his nearest rival Leon Haslam in the championship standings.
Rea finished slightly over a second clear of Chaz Davies in the first race after a long battle for victory, while the fans cheered home-favourite Michael van der Mark on to a third place finish – the Honda man’s first appearance on the podium this season.
The second race followed a familiar pattern, as Rea eventually proved too strong for Davies, pulling away in the final 20 laps.
It was the fourth consecutive race that the pair have both finished in the top two, although Rea’s supremecy here was clear to see.
To the delight of the Assen crowd, Michael van der Mark was also able to produce a repeat performance by finishing third again after an impressive overtake on Leon Haslam in the final lap.
