Parkes spent this year racing alongside Michael Laverty in Paul Bird’s PBM MotoGP team but was hand-picked by Muir for BSB after prolonged talks with Yamaha and the fact Parkes has huge experience of the three vital Showdown circuits.
“We looked at what we needed for the team, with it being a new bike, we have listened to our sponsors in Milwaukee, we have listened to Monster who are both keen sponsors for the team, but above all we listened to what Yamaha were talking about as well and  we considered our options and for us it was clear we needed real stability with this bike,” said Muir, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“As much effort we are getting from the factory, it needs to be developed at the same time, we don’t think it will be a case of throwing it on the circuit and let the rider sort it out as Leon Camier did in 2009 with James. It is very much that we are going to use the Showdown process to the best of our ability, let’s build slowly and peak at the right time.
“The reason we took Broc on is he has a good pedigree with Yamaha, he is involved with the factory in Japan, I have a lot of time for Broc, and he is a very good development rider – that is key.
“I sat him alongside which other riders we had available in front of us and I genuinely couldn’t split them aside, apart from Brock’s lack of knowledge on maybe two or three circuits. He was counted by the fact he has excellent knowledge – as good as anyone else at the final three circuits when it really counted – hence Broc got the call.”
