The medley swimmer reached a career high at the 2014 European Swimming Championships, picking up two individual medals – a silver in the 400m individual medley, and a bronze in the 200m race.
He also represented Team GB at London 2012, where he finished 13th in the 400m IM heats, failing to reach the final.
Pavoni made his debut for Great Britain at the 2007 European Youth Olympic Festival in Belgrade, aged 16, and moved to Loughborough University in 2010, where he was coached at the national centre by Kevin Renshaw.
And now, with his competition days behind him, he wants to forge a path of his own in swimming coaching.
"I am excited to now move into coaching where I realise that I have the same passion as I had for my own career," he said.
"I have made the decision to retire from my competitive swimming career and would like to say a special 'thank you', from the bottom of my heart, to all those who have been involved in helping me to achieve more than I had ever imagined possible."
British Swimming's national performance director Chris Spice congratulated Pavoni on his career, thanking him for his dedication to representing Great Britain over the past ten years.
"He was a great role model for all those that saw the way he trained and competed and often set the example for others to follow," he said.
"On behalf of everyone at British Swimming I want to wish him good luck for the next chapter in his career and hope he is successful in his future endeavours."
The news comes 24 hours after Michael Jamieson announced his retirement from swimming in a Sunday Times interview where he revealed his battle with depression. Sportsbeat 2017
