The Frenchwoman looked a tricky opponent on home soil and having won a title in Strasbourg last weekend, but Radwanska was highly impressive in a 6-2 6-4 victory.
The Pole is the second seed at Roland Garros, but clay is her least favourite surface and she has only once made the quarter-finals.
Radwanska, who next meets Czech Barbora Strycova, said: "I think I played a really good two matches. Especially this one. I think this was really a tough one. I 'm just very pleased that I could close that match in two sets.
"I'm not really thinking about expectations or second week. I'm just very happy to be in the third round. Of course now it's not going to be easier. I'm healthy, in one piece, and I'm just ready for the next one."
Garbine Muguruza is another player in the frame to challenge defending champion Serena Williams and she had a much easier time on Wednesday after a tough first round.
The fourth seed, who lost to Williams in the Wimbledon final last year, had to come from a set down against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in round one, but saw off Myrtille Georges 6-2 6-0 in just 53 minutes.
After the exits of Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber on the other side of the draw, it was a good day for the leading women.
Former finalist Simona Halep survived a tough first set against Zarina Diyas before coming through 7-6 (7/5) 6-2, while 10th seed Petra Kvitova beat Hsieh Su-wei 6-4 6-1.
Last year's finalist Lucie Safarova was another straight-sets winner as was 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.
But 25th seed Irina-Camelia Begu and American Coco Vandeweghe played late into the evening in the longest women's match of the season so far.
Romanian Begu, who has been in superb form on the clay, outlasted Vandeweghe 6-7 (4/7) 7-6 (7/4) 10-8 after three hours and 38 minutes.
