Andy Murray’s improbable quest for the year-end world number one ranking continued with victory over Martin Klizen at ATP Vienna – although he was pushed into a deciding set by the Slovak.

Murray was on course to wrap up an easy win after taking the first set and breaking in the next, but he allowed his opponent back into the contest before losing a second set tie-break.
Undeterred, the top seed promptly reeled off six straight games to progress 6-3 6-7(5) 6-0.
He will face Gilles Simon in the second round on Thursday.
Novak Djokovic is taking some time off before returning at the Paris Masters at the end of October, meaning Murray can cut the 12-time Grand Slam winner's advantage in Austria.
And should Murray claim both titles in Austria and France he could end Djokovic's 27-month reign as world number one as early as November 7, although that will depend also on the 29-year-old Serbian not reaching the final in Paris.
