Britain's Andy Murray has claimed victory in a clay court tournament for the first time in his career, winning the ATP Munich Open.
The Scot beat local favourite Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6(4) 5-7 7-6(4) in the final, which had been scheduled for Sunday but was delayed due to heavy rain in the Bavarian metropolis.
Murray was top seed for the tournament, despite the fact that none of his 31 previous tournament wins had been on the sport's slowest surface.
Indeed, the world number three had never even made it to the final of a clay court tournament before this week.
That all changed in Munich, however: the Scot was pushed all the way by Kohlschreiber in an extraordinary match that lasted over three hours, with both men serving impeccably and chances few.
There was not a single break point in the opening set, while Kohlschreiber had the better of the three breaks in the second set.
Murray saved the sole break point of the final set and the 31-year-old German - seeded fifth - will have gone into the tie-break full of confidence.
But it was Murray who held his nerve better, winning his first tournament since getting married last month.
The honeymoon lay-off has clearly done him no harm - and indeed, marks the best possible start to his preparations for the French Open at Roland Garros later this month.
The British number one was presented with a pair of traditional Bavarian lederhosen, which he pulled on for the trophy ceremony.
He was also awarded a brand new BMW i8 by the tournament sponsors - not a bad way to celebrate your first title on clay.
