The world No 1 was scheduled to play Lucas Pouille in the Aspall Classic at the Hurlingham Club to get some more practice after his shock first-round exit to Jordan Thompson at Queen's last week.
However, the defending Wimbledon champion has now decided to withdraw as a precaution due to the niggle, with his management describing his hip as 'a bit sore'.
Murray is expected to play on Friday, however, as he attempts to turn around a poor start to the 2017 season, where he has only won one tournament so far following a bout of shingles and an elbow problem.
