The men's final in Melbourne had to be held up for several minutes as protesters took over the Rod Laver Arena briefly.
The interruption came shortly after Murray had claimed the second set in a tie-break to level the match up at once set each.
Security quickly surrounded the players, but there seemed no intention from the protestors to do anything except make their point about refugees by draping a banner over the court.
The protestors - who all had tickets for the match - were soon removed by security guards, leaving several rows of empty seats.
According to reports, the protestors were complaining at the Australian government policy of housing refugees in the Manus Island refugee camp, which Amnesty International has condemned for the inhumane condition in which 2,000 asylum seekers are housed.
