Bjorn Borg was most influential player of all time, insists Pat Cash

Bjorn Borg was the most influential tennis player of all time, according to Australian great Pat Cash.

The 60-year-old Swede won 11 Grand Slams during his playing career – six fewer than modern great Roger Federer and one less than recently deposed No 1 Novak Djokoivc.
However, the Eurosport commentator believes his all-round game had a huge impact on the sport.

Following a Champions Cup match in Seoul, Cash, who won Wimbledon in 1987, told the Korea Times that Borg's place in history has been established.
(Bjorn) Borg was probably the most influential player of all time.
"He changed tennis with his double-handed backhand and hit more topspins than anybody before him. He rarely made a mistake and was one of the quickest players of all time."
In terms of the current players, Cash believes it is Rafa Nadal who has brought a new level to the game due to his "ferocious forehand and backhand and such intensity”.

Who are we to argue with one of Eurosport’s finest? Cash, an articulate and insightful commentator, chooses his words carefully in this instance by saying it was the “influence” that Bjorn had that was so great on the game.
Clearly his technical excellence, along with Nadal’s when he burst on the scene, took the sport to the next level. It’s just a shame the reporter didn’t ask who he thinks the greatest player is overall…
