Dan Evans made it through to the quarter finals of the Citi Open in Washington after dispatching 12th seed Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets on Tuesday.
Evans, 26, who is the British number four but ranked 82nd in the world, outclassed the world number 40, Grigor, with a convincing 6-4 6-4 win.
Though Dimitrov did not give up without a fight, saving three match points at 5-2 in the second set to stay in the set for another three games – breaking the eventual victor’s serve in the process.
Though Evans went on to serve for the match again, converting his fifth match point to set up a final 16 date with Lukas Lacko or Jack Sock, who play each other on Wednesday.
