Rookie Golubic pulls off a shock for Switzerland against Czech Republic

Fed Cup singles debutante Viktorija Golubic drew Switzerland level against Czech Republic at the end of the first day of their Fed Cup semi-final.

Golubic beat Karolina Pliskova, ranked 18th in the world, 3-6 6-4 6-4.

Earlier, Barbora Strycova had trounced Timea Bacsinszky 6-0 6-2 to take Czech Republic into the early lead.

The other semi-final is equally finely poised, France and Netherlands tied at one rubber apiece after Kiki Bertens beat Caroline Garcia 6-4 6-2 and Kristina Mladenovic beat Richel Hogenkamp 6-2 6-4.
