Top seed Ferrer, strong in Grand Slam play in 2012 with each of his defeats coming at the hands of the eventual winner, had previously lifted the trophy in 2008.
And the Spaniard's straight-sets win over German Petzschner marked his fourth title of the year and the 15th of his career.
Ferrer is seeded seventh at the All England Club, which gets underway on Monday, beginning against another German player in the form of Dustin Brown.
Victory in this first-ever meeting between the two players earned Ferrer a prize of over £55,000.
Meanwhile, Nadia Petrova claimed the WTA crown with the reversed scoreline, overcoming Urszula Radwanska 6-4 6-3 in the final.
The Pole received a walkover from the last four after scheduled opponent Kim Clijsters withdrew as an injury precaution.
But it would be the Russian's tournament after sweeping Radwanska aside in straight sets.
