The number two seed and 2009 French Open champion Federer has now reached the last 16 or better for the past 11 years.
Federer was rarely tested by Dzumhur on Philippe Chatrier as he set up a meeting in the last 16 against Gael Monfils or Pablo Cuevas.
The Swiss master, who lost to Ernests Gulbis in the fourth round last year, is a decade older than 23-year-old Dzumhur, but you would never have known judging by the athleticism of both men.
Federer's twin girls are five, but appeared to be distracted during he match by a comic book and a smart phone.
“They are happy when I'm back from the matches,” said Federer.
“They are happy when I come back from practice because they like spending time with me rather than me being gone. I'm happy it's that way and not the other way, that they can't wait for me to go play tennis.
“Clearly they like looking at their books and all that stuff. I don't blame them. It's sweet that they are out with their friends, together as a family. Today they are old enough to not make any more noise and stuff, so it's nice to see them out there.”
World number 88 Dzumhur has reached the third round of a Grand Slam event for a second time.
He had reached this stage at the 2014 Australian Open as a qualifier.
