Despite producing one of the results of the tournament in his fourth-round victory over Milos Raonic, Ramos-Vinolas was broken early in the match and lost the first set 6-2 in just 31 minutes.
With more of the same in the second set, Wawrinka unleashed his powerful backhand to devastating effect to move two sets ahead and looked to be cruising toward the semi-finals.

The set went to the wire with Ramos Vinolas holding his own, but a couple of unforced errors allowed Wawrinka to creep ahead and secure his place in the semi-finals.
