GRANOLLERS 3-6 4-6 2-6 DJOKOVIC: That was a reasonably straightforward task for Novak Djokovic, who immediately brings in the ballkids for a photo opportunity. Granollers played his part in what was an entertaining encounter.

Djokovic finally holds his serve to take a 3-1 lead in the third. This has been a decent workout for him, displeased though he is with his efforts.
Brilliant rally, both players skidding to the net and what a get from Granollers! The players share a high-five by the umpire's chair, but Djokovic is less into the spirit of things when he loses the next point as well - can Granollers make it a fourth straight service break? Not at the first time of asking, but he earns another chance only to go long with a forehand.
Granollers then goes long with a backhand which elicits a major holler from Djokovic - to no avail, because a deep groundstroke forces him to make a mistake - it's back to deuce.
After all that, Djokovic breaks for a 2-1 third set lead.Surely he'll close it out from here? The ballkids certainly hope so.
Well-in Marcel Granollers! A long rally, with lots of metronomic grunting ... and it ends with Djokovic going long! He is useless! That's 22 unforced errors, such that any ever are.
Obviously Djokovic breaks in the first game of the third set.
Well, it took a while, but eventually Djokovic secures the second set 6-4. Having started brilliantly he's found it harder going as Granollers has grown into the match, and there's bee lots of reasoning with self and all the rest of it. But here we are.
Well in M. Granollers. He wins the game to make it 4-5, and Djokovic will have to serve for the set.
Another excellent serve gives Granollers game point, and another excellent serve sets him for a winner, except he misses. He then has to save a set point, which he does, then another, and there are some more deuces as Djokovic becomes increasingly irate. It's really rather funny, all the more so when an eights set-point is foiled with a punishing forehand. 20 points in the game so far.
Granollers is serving to stay in the second set, and Djokovic is making short work of the same. At 30-0, he glides a veritably agassonian return down the line, it's beautiful, but two aces and a jazzer out wide to facilitate a smash bring things back to deuce.
Oooooh, temper temper! Djokovic, who's been sharp with the ballboys today, plays a pathetic game, loses his second break, and thrashes a ball back. That'll show 'em all.
Djokovic has broken again - he now leads 4-1, and Granollers is not really making him fight for this.
"Lunch is the priority here," say our commentators, and that's fine. Just guzzle it in your seat. It really isn't hard.
Empty seats banter is rubbish, obviously, but there really aren't very many people on Chatrier, while one of the finest players ever - one of the finest athletes ever - is doing his thing. It's a nonsense. People are a nonsense.
Granollers is on the board in set 2, for all the good it'll do him. More running around, not much else.
Djokovic breaks without being asked to do anything special. I think he might win this one.
And of course he does it to love, finishing off with a thumping service winner out wide - it's his fastest so far, 193kph. He's quite good at tennis.
Granollers is serving at 2-5, and earns himself a game point, quickly losing it again. But then Djokovic slides in only to net his volley, and Granollers does really well at the net next point to slide a volley across it and make Djjokovic serve for it.
There are 39 men in the draw aged 30 or above. Obviously people can go on for longer, especially given the cash that's now available, but I also wonder if maybe people aren't coming through as once they were. Certanly at the top, it's unusual that Murray, Djokovic, Federer and Nadal have yet to be usurped.
Longest rally of the match so far has Djokovic sending Granollers scurrying hither and yon, finishing with a smash, and celebrating his magnificence with an arm raised to the crowd. He's broken again to lead 3-1.
Food for thought.
Well whaddaya know? Not only does Poormarcel break back, but he does so thanks to a Djokovic double-fault! Useless, him.
Djokovic has started nicely, blitzing poor old Marcel to speed into a 2-0 advantage.
So, Novak Djokovic is underway. Helpfully, our commentators began with an exposition of just why he's going to annihilate poor Marcel Granollers, who's having a rotten time of things.
