Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic were in tears after claiming the women's doubles title with a 6-3 2-6 6-4 win over Ekaterina Makarov and Elena Vesnina at Roland Garros.
The seventh seeded French duo remarkably enjoyed their first Grand Slam ttle despite having only decided to team up earlier this year in the hope of representing France at the Olympic Games in Rio.
They have already won titles in Charleston, Stuttgart and Madrid, but the Paris success is the highlight of what has so far been an astonishing and fruitful partnership.
The main Philippe Chatrier main court was less than a quarter full a raucous crowd but generated a lively atmosphere as the Russians fought back to take the second set.
The French pair made the telling break in the third set, taking Vesnina's serve in the ninth game with Garcia again serving out to win the match.
On a good day for France, Geoffrey Blancaneaux won the junior singles, beating 15-year-old Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 1-6 6-3 8-6 after saving three match points.
