Konta secures semi-final spot in Stanford with straight sets victory

British number one Johanna Konta is through to the semi-finals of the Bank of the West Classic in California after defeating China's Saisai Zheng 6-2 4-6 6-3.
Konta, ranked 18 in the world, broke her opponent twice in the opening set, before Zheng, ranked 56 places below, won the last three games of the second set to level in Stanford.
The Brit broke early in the third before Zheng rallied back with three straight games, but Konta was able to fight back to move into a 4-3 lead.
She held serve before breaking her opponent once more, holding on to secure her place in the last four with victory in just over two hours and 20 minutes.
Konta will face second seed Dominika Cibulkova in the semi-final after the Slovakian came back from 2-5 down in the opening set to win 11 straight games en route to a straight sets victory over Japan's Misaki Doi.
