Murray, deservedly defeated the third seed 6-4 3-6 6-4, to clinch a third round meeting with fellow teenager Novak Djokovic.
"It is a huge victory for me against a guy ranked number three in the world. On top of that I beat him on his preferred surface," Murray said after beating Ljubicic.
"Today's win gives me confidence that I can go on to secure my place among the best players.
"He's one of the best indoor players in the world so it is a good benchmark.
"I have definitely got more confidence than I had earlier in the year, but I can still play better.
Meanwhile, 15th seed Djokovic ensured a match-up with the young Scot, by beating another one of the ATP Tour's top young prospect, Richard Gasquet, 7-6 1-6 6-1 in a rollercoaster game.
Murray admits that he will go into the game full of confidence.
"Novak is a friend of mind, and I have played him a few times when I was a junior" he said.
"He won a tournament a few weeks ago and is a slight favourite, but after my win today we shall see."
