Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova has suffered a recurrence of the forearm injury that has blighted her game, and has been forced to pull out of the WTA Qatar Open.
The world number six has been struggling with the problem for some time, and was forced out of the Australian Open warm-up event in Brisbane ahead of the year's first Grand Slam last month.
Sharapova was able to play in Melbourne, where she was thrashed in straight sets by Serena Williams in the quarter-finals.
The 28-year-old has not played since, though she was an unused member of the Russian Fed Cup squad last week.
"Unfortunately, I will not be able to play the Qatar Open because of my left forearm injury," Sharapova told the Qatar Open website.
"I would like to wish the tournament and all the great fans in Doha a great week of tennis and I hope to see them next year."
Sharapova's 2015 season was also affected by injury, a leg problem that saw her miss three months of the season, including the US Open.
