Berdych is now likely to play Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals, a man he has beaten the last three times he has played him, although all of those victories were on hard courts.
Against Soderling, the number 10th seed never really looked at his best even when he was in the process of winning 12 games in row.
Both players were off colour in the opening set, but Soderling broke twice to Berdych's once to take it 7-5.
The Swede then won the first three games of the second set and look on course for victory before collapsing in spectacular fashion.
Soderling struggled to get his first serve in all day (43%), and Berdych's return was one of the few shots he had flowing which set him up for the comeback win.
In the final set he finally started to loosen up in other areas but Soderling was a beaten man at that stage and the victory proved to be quite comfortable in the end.
"We did not play our best tennis in the first set and then I never gave up and played much better," Berdych said after the match.
