The current World No. 1 lost the first set in Paris to leave him on the brink of a defeat that would have handed Andy Murray a golden chance to usurp him as the top ranked male tennis player in the world.
However, Djokovic turned on the style to overpower Dimitrov, despite having treatment on a knee problem in the second set, in a comeback win that keeps his hopes of retaining that top spot alive.
"No problem, thankfully. Just an awkward footing in that point but all is well," Djokovic told a news conference.
Even though the Serbian upped his game significantly following his disappointing first-set showing, he still carved out just four break points in the remainder of the match. However, he converted three of those four points to progress to the fourth round of the Paris Masters and put the pressure back on Murray.
Djokovic now faces a quarter-final clash with Croat Marin Cilic who clinched one of the two remaining spots for the ATP World Tour Finals with a 6-3 7-6 (9) win over Belgian David Goffin.
There are two ways that Djokovic can lose his place atop the men's game this week:
1 - Murray wins the event; Djokovic fails to reach the final
2 - Murray reaches the final; Djokovic fails to reach the semi-finals
