The Murray brothers saved six match points in a dramatic second set tie-break, but Bellucci and Sa delighted the home fans with their straight-sets win.
Wimbledon champion Andy, Britain’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony on Friday, had hoped to win the gold medal with his brother after clinching the top prize in the singles at London 2012.
But it was not to be for the Scots as they failed to knock Bellucci and Sa out of their rhythm and experienced a chastening first-round defeat.
The attention will now switch to the singles for Andy after he recorded a comfortable first-round victory over Viktor Troicki earlier in the day.
