Sabine Lisicki blasts record 27 aces in Birmingham

Sabine Lisicki fired 27 aces – a WTA record for the most in a singles match – during her 6-1 7-6(4) triumph over Belinda Bencic at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.

The German followed up 16 in the opening set with another 11 in the second as she reached the third round.

"It's nice to have another record!" Lisicki said in her on-court interview.

"It's obviously a good weapon to have on grass. And I love playing on grass.”

The previous record stood at 24 aces.
