The British number one was made to work for the win, but eventually prevailed 6-2 6-7 (7-5) 6-4 in two hours and 40 minutes.
With the match suffering from two rain delays, Konta was relieved to make it through to the next round unscathed as the world number 11 battled with not just the rain, but gusting winds as well.
"I'm definitely satisfied with how I came back in the third set and just competed," the 25-year-old said.
"It was very difficult conditions - not just the wind, but also the rain, quite a little bit of stop and start.
"It was about managing your expectations for any sort of level for the match but also any sort of frustrations that would arise because of the conditions.
"She played quite well, and I really had to fight hard and work for it in the end."
Konta, the tenth seed in Florida, will face Pauline Parmentier in the third round, with a possible meeting with world number nine Madison Keys at stake in the round of 16. Sportsbeat 2017
