US Open - Halep overcomes Babos to progress to last 16, Radwanska also through

Simona Halep of Romania, the women's fifth seed, beat Hungary’s Timea Babos 6-1 2-6 6-4 to progress to the next round of the US Open.

Halep raced into to a one-set lead taking all three of her break opportunities on offer but Babos battled forced a deciding set claiming the second stanza 6-2.

Radwanska, who had been extended to three sets in three of her four matches against 25th seed Garcia, romped into the round of 16 with a 6-2 6-3 victory in breezy conditions at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
