Teenager Ana Konjuh made up for her heartbreaking Wimbledon defeat to Agnieszka Radwanska by knocking out the Polish fourth seed at the US Open, 6-4 6-4.
Konjuh served for the match twice and held three match points in there second-round match at SW19 this summer before turning her ankle by stepping on the ball at 7-7 in the third set.
The 18-year-old Croat, ranked only 92nd, had never been past the third round at a major until this tournament.
Although she went on to lose 9-7 in the third set that day, Konjuh earned herself a chance at redemption by using her monster serve and thunderous groundstrokes to tame the wily Pole cracking 38 winners, including six aces, to claim the biggest win of her career.
It's been an incredible night," Konjuh said in an on-court interview. "This time I got revenge, so I'm really happy.
The former junior No.1 and champion at Flushing Meadows in 2013 set up a quarter-final meeting with No.10 seed Karolina Pliskova, who had eliminated Venus Williams earlier.
Radwanska, who was trying to reach her first ever US Open quarter-final struggled to maintain her early form in the tournament and could not cope with the the relentless hitting from Konjuh who got the job done in one hour, 19 minutes.
