Martina Hingis fell short of yet another doubles crown in New York as she and Coco Vandeweghe were beaten by Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic.
Garcia and Mladenovic, the top seeds, breezed through the match to win 6-3 6-4.
In the final the duo - winners of the French Open earlier this year - will play American star Betthanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova, the duo who won both the Australian and French Open doubles titles in 2015.
Mattek-Sands was a gold medallist in the mixed doubles at the Rio Olympics alongside Jack Sock, and played a fine match alongside Safarova to see off two other Rio gold medallists in Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, Olympic champions in the women's doubles last month.
Mattek-Sands and Safarova dominated the first set but were pushed hard in the second, eventually winning 6-2 7-6.
