Stan Wawrinka brushes aside Fernando Verdasco in first round

Swiss superstar Stan Wawrinka made light work of his opening round opponent, former world top 10 player Fernando Verdasco.

Verdasco pushed the former Australian and French Open champion hard in the opening set, but thereafter failed to keep up with Wawinka's trademark power hitting.
The Spaniard did still show the occasional flash of inspiration, but Wawrinka - who has reached the semi-finals here in two of the last three years - never really looked in danger.

The final score was 6-7(4) 6-4 6-4, lining up the world No. 3 for a second round clash against one of two unknowns: world No. 128 Denis Kudla or world No. 243 Alessandro Giannessi.
