All times below are British Summer Time. Add an hour for CET, subtract five hours for local time in New York.
  • First up in the women's singles at midnight on Arthur Ashe Court is Serena Williams against surprise semi-finalist Karolina Pliskova
  • After that match it's Australian Open champion and Wimbledon runner-up Angelique Kerber against twice US Open runner-up Caroline Wozniacki
  • Earlier in the day, at 5pm, Scotland's Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares are in the men's doubles semi-final against top seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicholas Mahut of France

MATCH OF THE DAY

Caroline Wozniacki v Angelique Kerber - Arthur Ashe, around 2am BST
Now THIS should be a cracker. Angelique Kerber, arguably the player of the year having won the Australian Open and made the Wimbledon final, stands a match away from a third Grand Slam final of the year.
If she makes it, she will be the first player - other than Serena Williams, of course - to do that since Justine Henin back in 2006. What's more, she knows she can grab the world number one spot if she out-performs Serena at the tournament; quite an inducement for a player who, until January, was never seen as anything more than just a solid top 20 performer.

Kerber focused on stealing world No. 1 spot from Serena

But on the other side of the net is Caroline Wozniacki, a New York resident, twice a runner-up at Flushing Meadows, playing some of the best tennis of her life - and for a former world number one, that's saying something. Even if Wozniacki climbed to the summit of the rankings by milking every tournament in the world except the four majors.
Wozniacki this year seems a different prospect, however. Her lengthy article posted at The Players' Tribune talked about the sacrifices her parents made for her career in a tone which suggests a new maturity and better perspective on tennis, sport and life. It feels like Wozniacki will never have a better chance of finally landing the Grand Slam title she's coveted for so long.

POTENTIAL UPSET OF THE DAY

Serena Williams v Karolina Pliskova - Midnight
She might have been seeded 10th in the draw, but Karolina Pliskova was barely mentioned as one of the pre-tournament favourites ahead of New York. Yet clearly she should have been: she beat none other than Angelique Kerber in the final of WTA Cincinatti just a couple of weeks ago, denying the German star the chance to become world number one.
On top of that, she's swept almost all before her, not dropping a set other than in her last-16 match against Venus Williams, a battle only decided in a third set tie-breaker. With her serve arguably the best in women's tennis, she could have a real chance of beating either a second Williams sister or Simona Halep to make it through - much will depend on how her nerve holds up in what will be her first ever Grand Slam semi-final.
