Heading into the clash Watson Ð ranked 64th in the world Ð had high hopes of earning her first US Open victory against Davis with the American ranked 23 places lower than the British number one. But it wasnÕt to be as Watson lost 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-0) meaning she has now lost all five of her first round US Open matches despite winning the junior title in 2009. It was a far cry from when Watson ran eventual champion Serena Williams close at Wimbledon earlier in the year and the Brit was struggling to find a reason for the loss. "I was thinking a lot about this match, thinking that it was a big opportunity and about the previous years and my results here," said Watson. "Maybe I thought about that a bit too much. "I found it quite hot. I felt fine before the match, but maybe it was a mix of tension and long rallies mixed together. "I should have come to the net a lot more than I did. It's easy looking back now but I didn't execute my game plan the way I wanted to." © Sportsbeat 2015
