Wimbledon hero Marcus Willis gets engaged to girlfriend

Wimbledon hero Marcus Willis and his girlfriend Jennifer Bate have got engaged - rounding off an exciting month for them.

They announced the news via Willis's Instagram.

The couple found themselves in the media spotlight last month as Willis faced Roger Federer on Centre Court.

That came after he beat Lithuania's Ricardas Berankis in the Wimbledon first round - the first Tour-level match he had ever played.

He was the lowest-ranked qualifier to reach the second round at any Grand Slam in 27 years.

They said in interviews at the time that he had been planning to quit professional tennis and move to Philadelphia to take up a coaching job lined up in Philadelphia - until he met Bate earlier this year.
