Round-up: James Ward makes third round of Wimbledon, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga eases through

Ward looked utterly assured throughout, winning the first three games of the match on his way to the opening set, then claiming the second in a tie-break.

World number 45 Vesely struck back to take the third set, but Ward - whose best moments have hitherto been confined to the Davis Cup - shrugged off the setback and cantered through the final set, at one point saving a break point with the sort of assured aplomb you would expect from a world top 10 player.

Ward is one win away from a potential fourth round match against Rafa Nadal - and with the Spanish genius enduring his worst ever season, an all-British quarter-final against Andy Murray is a distant possibility.

"It's great. Obviously ranking goes up. Into third round of Wimbledon, I can't ask for anything more at the moment," said Ward, who is guaranteed to break into the world's top 100 after joining Andy Murray and Heather Watson in round three.

"It's (being in the top 100) something you work for throughout your whole career.

"Everyone's got bills to pay. I'm no different to anyone else in this tournament who is in this position.

"But it's not really something I've thinking about. More worried about my ranking and achieving my goals than the prize money."

After years of toiling in the lower-tier challenger circuit, playing on dusty courts in far-flung places such as South Korea, Japan, Australia, Uzbekistan -- to name just a few -- Ward is finally reaping the benefit of training with Murray.

"It's always a good help spending time with him... which I've been lucky enough to do. Good habits rub off on you if you spend enough time around someone," said Ward.

"He's been a big help to me and I'm grateful for that. He's always there supporting. He follows live streams of challengers, is always there to send you a message when you've done well, or pick you up when you need a bit of support.

"It's nice to have that support from such a great player."

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga overcame Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3 6-4 6-4 to progress into the third round.

Tsonga was broken in the first game of the first set but managed two breaks of his own to take he first stanza.

The Frenchman, twice a semi-finalist at Wimbledon, secured early breaks in the second and third sets to ease through.

Aljaz Bedene fell to Viktor Troicki 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-4.

Bedene was appearing in the second round of a Grand Slam for the first time but rarely threatened Troicki.

Troicki will play German qualifier Dustin Brown in the next round after his impressive win over Rafael Nadal.
