Budapest celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the 4th Summer Universiade

BUDAPEST - On 27 August 2015, the National University Sports Federation of Hungary celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 4th Summer Universiade hosted in Budapest in 1965.
The Universiade in Budapest has been the last major multi-sport event organized in Hungary with 1,729 participants from 32 countries. At the occasion of this ceremony, a special commemorative plate has been inaugurated on the wall of the Budapest Stadium where the Opening Ceremony of the Universiade was organized.
After the ceremony all Hungarian medallists and participants were invited to Budapest city hall in order to attend the Conference, where the history of the Universiade as well as the history of the University Sports Movement has been presented. Among the participants, FISU Auditor Adrian Gagea (ROU), Budapest participant in shot-put competitions, was also present.

FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond presented the history of the Universiade after Budapest as well as the future of the University Sports Movement. “I was extremely impressed and moved to meet so many gold medallists, who got their medals 50 years ago. All of them are still passionate about their participation at the 1965 Universiade even if most of them were also successful in the Olympic Games and World Championships”, the SG/CEO commented. Mr. Saintrond presented a memorial plate to the President of the National University Sports Federation of Hungary Prof. Dr. Adam Kiss.
The FISU Secretary-General received a Fair-Play Award from the President of the International Fair-Play Committee Mr. Jeno Kamuti for his 30 years involvement in the International University Sports Movement. Mr. Jeno Kamuti is also an Olympic Champion and triple gold medallist of the Universiades 1961, 1963 and 1965.
