Teams test new cars ahead of Renault Sport Trophy

Less than 18 months after its birth and eight months since its official presentation at the Moscow International Auto Show, this year’s edition of the Renault Sport Trophy has already begun for the teams.

The first Renault Sport R.S. 01s were delivered to the teams before they put in a shakedown run at the Circuito Varano de Melegari, just six weeks before the first race.
The 2015 World Series by Renault will be remembered for the competition debut of the Renault Sport R.S. 01. Future star of the event, organised by Renault Sport Technologies for the past ten years, the racecar with a spectacular style and exceptional performance was assembled by Dallara, one of the primary partners of Renault Sport Technologies.
On April 15 the teams took possession of their first chassis’ to discover the car and begin the all-important preparation for the 2,360 metre Autodromo Riccardo Paletti. Among the teams present were Equipe Verschuur, Oregon Team, R-ACE GP, Monlau Competicion, V8 Racing and Zele Racing.
The teams and their drivers were able to confirm the qualities of the machine, including its reliability, drivability, stability, direct reaction and its very high level of downforce.
Some well-known faces of the World Series by Renault were behind the wheel, like former Formula Renault 2.0 competitors Andrea Pizzitola (R-ACE GP), Dario Capitanio (Oregon Team), Richard Gonda (R-ACE GP) and Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur). Ex- Eurocup Mégane Trophy and Eurocup Clio drivers Max Braams (V8 Racing) and Niccoló Nalio (Oregon Team) also took part in the shakedown.
The World Series by Renault spectators will get their chance to admire the Renault Sport R.S. 01 during the Motorland Aragón meeting next week before it makes its debut at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit on May 30 and 31. Before that, three days of collective tests are scheduled at the Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo Circuit on May 13-15.
“This running in the midst of the first deliveries is an important stage in the preparation of the Renault Sport Trophy,” said Jean-Pascal Dauce, Competition Director for Renault Sport Technologies. “We had a day were everything went according to plan thanks to the intense development done beforehand. Now, every minute counts ahead of the first race, the teams and drivers have shown an immense enthusiasm in the Renault Sport R.S. 01.”
